NEPTUNE

  • Neptune is named after the Roman god of the sea.
  • It is made up of gas, but the air is made up of hydrogen ,helium and methane.
  • It is 4.5 billion KM or to be more exact: 4503443661 km away from the Sun.
  • Neptune has a diameter of 55,528 kilometers. Its volume is 57.7 times the volume of Earth which means that 57 Earths could fit inside of Neptune with a little room left over.
  • The planet has 13 moons, they are:Naiad, Thalassa, Despina,
  • Galatea, Larissa, Proteus, Triton, Neried, Halimede, Sao, Laomedeia,Psamathe, and Neso.
  • A year on Neptune takes 164.8 Earth years. A day on Neptune is 16 hours and 6.7 minutes.
  • Neptune has the wildest and strangest weather in the entire solar system. It has huge storms with extremely high winds. Its atmosphere has dark spots which come and go, and bright cirrus-like clouds which change rapidly.
  • Neptune has an average temperature of -353° Fahrenheit or -214° Celsius. On Earth sunlight drives our weather, but Neptune is so far away from the sun that it receives a thousand times less sunlight than Earth does. How Neptune gets the energy for such intense weather is still a mystery.
  • Neptune has a giant storm much like the storm on Jupiter. This storm is often called The Great Dark Spot.Neptune also has six rings which circle the planet.
